Some counties have banned all types of outdoor exercise so please check your country/state/city regulations before going out for a run. Currently, in the U.S. solo exercises activity like running & running are permitted during shelter-in-place mandates. If you are running, here are best practices from major health organizations to do it as safely as possible:
1) Do not go out if you are sick
2) Consider running/training indoors (virtual races)
3) Run SOLO & avoid crowded areas (keep 6 ft from other individuals)
4) Cover face with cloth if you will be around others
5) Wash your hands after you go outdoors & avoid touching your face
6) Take it easy and keep it low-moderate intensity

  • hi ya Dr. Mike! do you know of anyone who has tried the recovery store in LA, CA? if so, does the same offer apply? i ask, as i am no spring chicken (37), lol, training in Mui Thai and prepping for air force reserve. running has always been a strong point for me and this seems to be an option for recovery after intense training sessions.. love, love, love your videos.. truth be told, i didn't not think i would! as i am ashamed and honest enough to admit that, i thought you would be a commercial- isk doc of sorts.. nonetheless, thanks and ill do my best to keep it happy and healthy :) you stay blessed safe and awesome!

  • I have to say Dr.Mike, I am bit dissapointed with this massive commercial, since you were always someone who defended selling only brands you believe in. You must know about the several Nike scandals on labor laws and insanely low wages for their factory workers. If anyone has any information in how this has changed I would much appreciated.

  • Alright... a few questions... 1) What's you opinion about barefoot shoes? Those Nike shoes look like they have a lot of cushioning and heal raise, which goes against the physiology of walking/running. 2) How much overweight is too much overweight to start running, as extra weight puts more pressure on your joints.

  • Hi doctor Mike I love running but I’m overweight and I have asthma every time I run my stomach starts hurting and my chest starts hurting and that’s with taking my inhaler and I often have pain in my right ankle and foot when I run. What shall I do about this should I continue running or stop running because I’m in so much pain? Aka I had two fractures in my right ankle it’s the bone holding the fibula and tibia together. Ever since my second fracture my ankle lost a lot of motion and it took nine months for it to stop hurting. And the doctor there said it was completely healed without taking x-rays. Why do I still have pain in that ankle when I run? And I have to wear my ankle brace a lot but I don’t like wearing my ankle brace because I think it will weaken my ankle. Is that true?

  • How likely is running to cause a prolapse in the pelvic floor one year post surgical repair. can't remember the name of the surgery but they took my uterus and stitched it up to a ligament or tendon in my hip and cut out the week portions of the vaginal wall to stitch the healthy portions together. i had all three type of prolapse after the last baby boo. i have had 3 kids all under 7lbs at birth, and i'm 5ft3in 130lbs. mind you i would only be running 1-5 miles per week if i'm lucky. thanks for your time and i love love love listening to you at work.   • I started to run at the gym before the quarantine. When all gyms were closed I bought a pair of running shoes and started to run outside. Now all gyms are open again and I feel it that the outdoor running has helped me.

  • Tips for a non runner with a bad knee? My left knee gets sore on walks even and can't take the impact of running. I also don't wear Nike runners. They just don't do much for support. I wear Asics 1000 series as I tend to pronate some. I wear them walking also

    • Don't know if you still have shin splints, but here's what worked for me. Stop running, it's all about letting the muscles heal. Ice the muscles every couple of hours if possible to alleviate inflammation (try pouring water into a small paper cup to freeze and peel the top part to massage the shins with. Roll out the shin splints, you can use a foam roller or even a hydro flask mostly depends on how much pain you can handle. Stretch the calf muscles as them being tight might be causing the shin splints. Depending on how bad they are recovery might take one to three months. Ones your all healed up, start slowly working your weekly mileage up. Make sure to warm up properly before running, and stretch well after your done. Don't overwork yourself, use proper form e.i forefoot/midfoot striking and you should be fine. Hope this helps, and have fun running.

  • Hi Dr. Mike! I have a strange running-related question. Quick backstory I have had two cholesteatomas in the same ear. The second left a lot of nerve damage. 2/3 ear bones destroyed, permanent nerve damage on the inside of my mouth. Extremely sensitive sinuses that cause severe migraines. But the strangest thing is that whenever I get my ear vacuumed out I get like a pinched nerve sensation in my lower back on the right side. I know this is weird to tie this together, but can that cause hip tightness or ab pain when I run? The pain is only the right side which is where all the other damage is. Or am I just running wrong? I hope in one of your "responding to comments" video you're able to get to this. Thank you for any future response :) P.s. I'm a 25-year-old woman. I'm not sure if age/gender has any impact but in case you needed it to respond more accurate I wanted to give you all the information I can.
