The Harsh Reality Of Being 800 Pounds | Doctor Reacts
Today I took a look at the story of Casey from TLC’s “Family By The Ton”, a show dedicated to following the journey of a real family’s weight loss. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the title of this show, but I decided to press on anyway and see if there was anything valuable to discuss. At his heaviest, Casey weighed 845 pounds and almost never left his father’s house where he stayed in bed and played video games all day. Today, Casey is employed, living on his own, and weighs under 300 pounds. His journey is nothing short of incredible, due in part to a supportive family, a strong medical team, bariatric surgery, and a commitment to improving his quality of life. Go, Casey!

So far it's pretty spot on, I appreciate the honesty and professionalism. To hear someone speak from a medical standpoint it's easier to take in criticisms and I really appreciate him explaining everything out to help others understand the mindset and how things are. It wasn't a fun life, I was miserable, the whole jounrey has been insane and crazy to apart of. I appreciate Dr. Mike for putting this out there, shouting my channel out in the bio, talking on how I'm doing now and everything. This was a really great watch, thanks everyone for the love and support and thanks again Dr. Mike
Dude great work!
@Casey King FBTT Good job man I'm happy for u
This is definitely one of the two inspirations I've received during the start of 2021 and can honestly say that if you could reach your goals, I can reach mine. Thank you for updating your journey and showing the progress you made.

For me its the same, 2020 was one of my best years so far, got a new job, started my drivers license wich i was allways scared of and i am almost all trough. (corona slowed down the process with all these lockdowns here in Germany) i do have to be thankful for one very special Person for urging me to do those things, my russian boyfriend. I guess that russian temprament and selfesteem is good for people who need a little push in life. 😊

I can only imagine how it feels to be told that you can't fit in the MRI. And have to go to the zoo to use the one they have for elephants
Casey works very hard to lose pounds. He is very honest about his life and has a very kind heart. This is an every inspiring story on how your life and what you do can impact what happens sooner and later in your life.I'm not sure how much a pound is because I live somewhere different but I hope Casey moves on to video games I'm not saying he can't play video games but he can play video games and lie on the couch but you just can't do it forever (no offence). Keep on the good work and try to live an successful life Casey!
WOW you are earning extra money from the tube
You know you hit Rock Bottom when you need a Zoo's MRI machine to scan you.
I’m 11 but I’m way too light and skinny. I weigh 43 kg even tho I eat a lot and never exercise cause I’m lazy. Any tips to get a bit fatter
This guy moves around more than I do and I’m below 100 :,)
His heart is dying because of too much fat
I am studying to become a doctor and your channel helps thanks :)
"You could have your stomach explode" That escalated quickly...
My old doctor kept pushing weight loss surgery even though I was only like 260. I know that's still pretty big, but I really don't know why he was pushing it so much when we could have come up with a different plan of action to lose the weight. Ultimately the reason that I declined the surgery is I wanted more children and wanted them somewhat close in age, but when you get the surgery you have to wait two years before getting pregnant. The second reason is because you have to take medication for the rest of your life and I'm not very good at taking pills.

“Dr. Proctor.”
I love how he was honest about how much he was eating. That’s really important to me. You need to want to get better and he really did. I feel like if he was fit he might look a bit like Ed sheeran
This is just wholesome
People don't realize also that when super fat people are eating tons of food it is because your brain does not get the signal that you are satiated or full until your stomach (the actual organ) is nearly full, from the path from 200 lbs to 800 lbs, the physical dimensions of the stomach get bigger and bigger, a stomach of someone that is 800lbs can be bigger than a champion food eater, without any practice or forceful water stretching. So instead of getting full from 2 hot dogs, it takes 6, or instead of 3 slices of pizza, it takes an entire large or even 2, etc. It isn't because these people are slobs that they eat so much, it is mainly due to physical enlargement of the stomach. A stomach tube surgery may end up leaving the stomach similar to the size as a normal individuals stomach, rather than 2 or 3x the size.
Ima fight them comments
Poor guy, had been raised to take whatever he can, even by force, eating out of fear that it's going to be last meal... I salute to doctor. Understanding, and with compassion. I'm trying to keep weight on 50kg at most but last year did miracle and i can't really get back to this point from 57kg. Trying to eat healthy, not really strong will. I think tooth damege didn't really got me eating less. :/ if anyone has ways of home training, please tell me.
that dude looks like the gabglo gabgalab
Omg, I just got an add on how to lose weight I'm sorry that I'm laughing right now lol
American fat doods when they find out they can get infected with canada
I love how much you emphasize taking it slow and at a healthy pace instead of just going all out. I am not obese but I am not healthy, I have recently been told I have disautonomia and it primarily effects my blood pressure. I have a hard time with exercising because my blood pressure will suddenly drop, which makes a chain reaction happen where my heart rate goes up and my breathing changes to compensate which leads me to get really light headed and I have blacked out a couple times. I went to an exercising class with my mom and the instructor could see me struggling and told me to sit down, that I don't need to push myself, and worked with me doing exercises that didn't put as much strain on my body. I think too often we are conditioned with the idea if you aren't out of breathe drenched in sweat then you aren't doing it right, and having people like you and that instructor to combat that myth and point out that pushing yourself is really bad, and you need to pace yourself based on your abilities is much needed in this world. Plus, side note, he is a heavy guy and any kind of lifts or movements he does he is lifting the weight of that limb and his body. It is a serious workout to be walking around carrying 700 lbs, lifting legs that probably have 50+ lbs of weight on them, spinning arms with the same large amount of weight. If anyone was to strap weights to their body, arms, and legs they would realize very quickly how much he is working out by just getting up and walking.
umm... put away the veggie chips
i'm considered obese and this video is making me cringe. Makes me want to try harder.

I wish these tv shows implemented a long term goal of intuitive eating. Though the weight loss is necessary, these shows often encourage behaviors of counting calories & cutting out entire food groups/categories which is a form of restriction & dieting. You can label it "lifestyle change", but it's dieting. 95% of diets fail because there's encouragement to avoid "bad" foods at all costs, when learning to have a relationship of moderation with them is much more sustainable long term. Restriction leads to binging. Balance, moderation & making peace with food are the keys. Your body will naturally restore to its "set point" once intuitive eating is achieved.
Weird combo but you and Neil degrasse Tyson are the most motivational people I know of.
The docter is a gamer, anime fan etc... most epic doctor
Am I imagining thinks or does Dr. Mike look tired in the video, with the dark circles around his eyes. Or did he have those all the time?
I’m glad he’s ok now, he lost a lot of weight
Is it just me or he look so tired
Health is important. Getting to that size is absolutely unacceptable.
I agree with that: 9:03, I lost so much weight, just by running and no machines
Wooow... he looks way better... I mean everything is possible

I am a plus size person. I have been told every issue I have is "because I'm fat" ...i have a hip issue from spots I started having issues again. Went to the doctor and was told well your fat lose weight... I am 212.. I have struggled with my weight but I HATE going to the doctor because of always being told this..

Could you do a video about how messed up the science behind addictive/fast food is? We're living a world that cares so much about money it risks our nation's health. I feel like so many people judge morbidly obese people who were in Casey's situation without considering how our nation glorifies food and sets us up for failure I'd love to see your take on it!
I’ve got some knee problems. My doctor told me if it isn’t super painful to try to live with it. Because right now it’s not worth doing the surgery. Unless I was a professional athlete or in the military in combat he wouldn’t recommend the surgery.
Dr. Mike is literally becoming a psychologist right here rn
Everything is spot on. For me, at my heaviest, I was at about 450 lbs. (give or take) 10 months later.... I’ve lost about 75lbs. And I want to do more.... I want to be as close to 275- 280 or more.
React to the tlc worlds strongest family
I feel horrible for the guy when he heard that his close to dieing
His channel's in the pinned comment above. He's doing a lot better and lost a huge amount of weight.
I bet someone gonna come along this video and say that fortnite caused him to gain that weight
How would you do surgery on someone like this?
If he lost that much weight, so others can, if they are motivated by it

People who are overweight should not be treated differently societally. We shouldn’t be jerks to them. That being said, people who are overweight are different medically, and medically at a huge risk. I appreciate how Dr. Mike really reflected this
WOOOOOOOWWWW
Dr. Mike. You are in my opinion a really great person. I hope you continue to continue to infect your viewers with love and compassion.

its really a feel good story to see how much weight he lost, and how much goals he accomplished
I am not morbidly obese, but i am definitely over weight. I have tried to lose weight and i feel much better as ive lost a few pounds. I am only 14, so i dont have too much control on my food intake too much as not eating the food my mother prepares, it would be very disrespectful. I feel happy that dr mike is talking about this, because this has only motivated me. Thanks.
Ever since you said zoo I'm hitting those dusty dumbbells.
This is who my 12 year old is probably playing fortnite with right now 🤦🏻♀️
this is not healthy but we need to remember that he is a human as well and he has feelings.
Listen, I'm 14, 226lbs, not good, I do diets, like keto, I'm not sure that's 100% the best. But as of recently I'm trying fasting, but more of skipping literally one meal. And eating smaller portions because I know that I personally have an issue with getting bored and walking straight to the fridge. I'm picking up hobbies and trying to lose weight. I'm probably supposed to be at most 160lbs, I'm I think 5'6" in height
@Audrey Elizabeth I dont work out for weight loss, when I workout it's more for muscle gains, but yeah, when you do a diet for the first time it works but if you get off and go back its slower
I know how you feel I’m too trying to lose weight and I’ve tried so many things and nothing works (maybe that’s not what happening to you) so it’s just draining my energy when I work out and I’m not getting anything in return 🚇🤸🏽♀️
This was very pleasantly surprising. I expected a different reaction from a health professional about someone who is this over weight and I'm so glad to see Dr Mike me both understanding and supportive
Any advice for the a person on the opposite side of the spectrum? I'm skinny and wanting to put weight on but I struggle as I reach a point where I just can't eat anymore and that point just stops me from trying to eat more to put weight on. All I least want is to have a bit more fat on as its quite common to get cold. I should also mention I'm a fussy eater so it does limit me to what I can eat. Its sometimes down to the taste and other times it the texture. For example, I hate onions but when its been blended up I am able to enjoy it. I can be fine with it getting marinated to food but I just can't stand the texture of eating and chowing down on the onion (cooked)
I had the vertical sleeve done and its a tough life change but its worth it. I was told I wasn't going to see my kids grow up and that done it for me. I was 402LBS and I'm not 230 and I enjoy life to the fullest. It did get me down for a while but I pulled through. They didnt talk about the very strict liquid diet though. 4 weeks before surgery its liquid only. Like protein shakes, broths, and water. Then after surgery its 6-8 weeks before you eat solid foods. Its tough but it can be done. Hang in there and you will see results.
