  • Having done Whole30 twice, I feel like this is oversimplified. No, you can’t eat the peas at the Greek Thanksgiving, unless they are pea pods (regular peas count as legumes). Also, you have to avoid soy, which is in a lot of things. Finally, at Chipotle, you have to be careful about your meat choice - carne asada, chicken, or carnitas. Until about a year ago, only the carnitas were free of soy. As far as eliminating beans goes, some people have serious issues with legumes that they are unaware of.

  • I did the whole30 about 5 years ago and I very slowly added food back (added a new food about every 2 weeks) and when i added dairy i reacted to it almost instantly (all the typical reactions someone who is lactose intolerant would have) so I went back to no dairy and never went back and I noticed so many changes.. like my periods are less painful, acne which was always a struggle for me has almost gone away.. i really think I am lactose intolerant but I have never actually been diagnosed with it so I just tell people that dairy products don't love me as much as I love them when I am asked why I don't eat dairy I also didn't react to anything else so there's that... except now that Im pregnant (second trimester) I have started reacting to corn almost worse than I react to dairy.. explain that one lol

  • Dr Mike thanks for your input. You did miss the mark on reintro of foods after 30 days and that is key. You need to go back and review that part and doing as you indicated is not the protocol. At the end of the day this system is designed to show how one's system reacts to those foods that you eliminated one by one and to be honest, that can take another 2-3 weeks to do. I have worked with my doctord and once they understood the whole process, supported me. Re-entry is the key to the whole purpose of the 30 day elimination. Without it, the 30 days are for nothing.   • My husband who is in shape and very active(RN MedSurg ahh!) Was just diagnosed with diabetes. I was familiar because I'd had gestational diabetes. So I took the gestational diabetes diet, mixed it with whole 30 and netcarb counting. His fasting blood sugars are almost normal now. Every week its getting better. He has to eat carbs but we've gone 100% measured whole grains. I admire people who can sustainably go on these strict diet. I can't. I don't know if its a willpower issue or the fact that I love to cook. Lol

  • My body can't even handle the diversity of Whole 30. I can't eat too much food. I can't eat most food. And slowly being able to eat less. The other day I ate something that set my whole upper body into itchy hives. Now I have to bravely try each of those items separately to find which food it was. None of them were new. I always hope that I won't get a reaction when this happens but I am never so fortunate. So, why eliminate black beans because for someone like me when I first realized that my inflammation was triggered by foods wouldn't have figured out what was wrong. I would have stayed inflamed the whole 30 days eating legumes. I did my own whole 30 and when I heard of it I was like this is what I did minus any type of potato. I wish I wrote a book on it or a blog lol. But I did reintroduction at a week at a time. So, I agree you can't just add foods one day at a time. I would eat the introduced food for about 2 days and not at all for 5 more days. Each week I would do an isolated reintroduction item not including the previous. If and when I had a reaction I put it on the test again list after I felt better. I hate the test again. Because just when you are feeling better you have to risk hurting again. But it is important if you want to have as much variety in your diet as possible. Thank you for sharing your diet adventures. In case anyone wants to know what I eat now. Mostly clean poultry (chicken, duck, turkey), fish, kale, collards, spinach and such leafy veggies (but no cabbage), green beans, asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower. Most fruits ( nothing in the banana family, no avocado, and recently no more olives), in any form dried fresh or frozen. I can handle goat and sheep dairy dairy. As far as red meat anything except cow. But other red meats(except pork) are hard to come by and are expensive so I rarely have red meat. Almonds with no skins. Sometimes eggs of any bird. Most spices and natural sugars(like maple syrup and agave nectar and processed honey not raw honey) in low moderation That is my diet. No grains, no heavy starch foods, no cow products, no chemicals like binders such as the gums and flavors. Oh and no something else but I don't know yet that caused the recent flare. It could be shrimp, coconut, any number of spices, mushrooms (had like four different mushrooms) and whatever else was in the soup including bacon and spinach which I doubt it was those. But I will have to wait for the inflammation in my SI joints, back, knees and uveitis that followed the rash goes away. So I am fasting currently.

  • I had the hardest time resisting chocolate and milk on the diet but it did make me feel better in general. I unintentionally lost 10 lbs but it was because sometimes I'd find myself at someone's house where I could only eat lettuce at the meal or deli turkey. It ended right when my city's Greek Fest occurred so I splurged and it threw me right off track. Felt so sluggish and bloated after that. I will say though, I ate a lot of meat, fruits, nuts, and vegetables and I think I should try to stick to that kind of Ape diet.

  • I love eating, so I exercise and do yog just so I can eat. My week (eating wise) looks like this: Monday: Food without garlic and onion. Tuesday: Fasting (only dry fruits and fruits when I get hungry) Wednesday to Saturday: Home cooked (Indian) meals (breakfast with fresh Mosambi Juice or sweet lime, Lunch with buttermilk and dinner with curd) Sunday: Cheat day I'm vegetarian btw. I don't like restrictive diets but sometimes they are important.

Always jokes about it too 🙄 I’m doing the whole30 currently (day 13) and it hasn’t been easy...I’ve gone back to the bad thoughts I’d have when I was anorexic bc of its rigid restrictions. All about “control” so I’ve been easier on myself and eaten some things (some healthy, some not, but not overdoing it) that aren’t on the plan. It’s tough get out of that mindset once you’re in it and small cheats have helped significantly...plus, I don’t think it really does what it says it does unless you’re severely unhealthy. Even then, I’m not sure 🤔

  • There are two introductions for Whole30. One is called a slow roll. Curious, if you felt you needed to re-introduce one thing at a time, you didn't choose this option. I also feel like they don't push you to do it on a whim. Melissa states "on the advice of your doctor" and "make sure you are ready"! I feel like you didn't read any of the books? Maybe you did and missed that part. It was definitely right for me. Maybe it isn't right for everyone, but after 6 months of following Whole30 advice, my bloodwork looked better than it had in 16 yrs! This is after a two year stint with another plan.

  • So I think that this guy didn’t do actual Whole 30. He did it as kind of an afterthought and didn’t actually follow through with what Whole 30 is even about. He clearly did not read the Whole 30 book because if he had he would have known that they strongly discourage people from trying to do it over the holiday season. He would also have known that Whole 30 is about instilling better food habits, meaning Little to no fast food during your 30 day elimination diet. Instead “Dr” Mike took the diet out of context, tried to eat out at restaurants all the time, had no vegetables (from what I can tell in the video he had mostly protein), and didn’t listen to any of the Whole 30 guidelines. This video was for views, and not to actually help anyone out regarding Whole 30. Thumbs down.

  • so I'm a colon cancer survivor and a year ago little over a year ago I had a colectomy I got very lucky we caught it at the very beginning so it's just a small cancerous polyp through able to get rid of no chemo however, my diet has been a disaster. Eating a salad a simple salad even like the most basic salad there is wrecks my guts I went to my doctor because this is extremely annoying and frustrating to be trying to eat healthy and have such issues. I'm at the beginning of my third week of Whole30 I'm feeling good, I struggle with not being able to eat rice that's that's a staple for me I do like that I can have potatoes on Whole30. So I will probably go a little bit longer than the regular Whole30 because next week I have to have my follow-up colonoscopy which Gatorade is not approved on Whole30 and my bowel prep includes Miralax and Gatorade cocktail. So I'm finding for me things that never gave me stomach issues before my surgery now all of a sudden are. Prepare unpairing this with intermittent fasting to try to reset my gut biome and get healthier

  • I'm on day 7 of whole 30, and I've realized just how much I crave sweets and cheese. I was cooking a lot of asian dishes as well and had to give up rice was hard too. :( It's quite the emotional rollercoaster. At times I want to give up and do at least a dessert with compliant ingredients or just go paleo, but I'm beginning to also notice that its because of my desire for sweets and things that are bad for me and how I want to get into a healthier mindset. It floors me just how little can be bought at the grocery store, even from the organic section, while on whole 30, and how some form of sugar is added to most every processed food.

  • When you talked about weird looks when you didn’t have alcohol at an event, I felt that when I went to a conference. I can’t have alcohol, and I got some weird looks at the opener of the event. But luckily someone told me the bartenders would make a mock tail if you asked, so I got those the rest of the weekend and no more weird looks.

  • Thank you for sharing! I'm on day 18 of the WHOLE30 diet. I can say that I have a lot more energy than before. I don't feel like I need to take several naps per day. Unlike you, I wasn't eating a healthy diet before - I always ate way too much sugar/bread/white rice/pasta, just unhealthy carbs and not enough vegetables and fruit. This diet is just teaching me to make better choices; to choose what I eat based on what my body NEEDS and not just on what it WANTS (because all it wants is cheese and sugar, honestly). LOVE
